 GEORGE EDWIN WITT, SR.
November 7, 1926 ~ March 2, 2016

George Edwin Witt Sr., 89, passed away peacefully in Vancouver, WA, on March 2, 2016. He was born on Nov. 7, 1926 in Decatur, IL to his beloved parents Adolph and Freda. His childhood was happy and he remained close to his sisters and brother his entire life.
George enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 16 years old and needed his parents' signatures to do so.
Trains, planes and automobiles describe some of his careers and interests. George retired from the railroad (and never rode a train again).
It was at the Portland Airport where he met the love of his life, Dona Jean, and they had a love affair that lasted everyday of their 40+ year marriage. George and his wife volunteered at the Portland Airport until her death in 2014. He retired from United Airlines and continued traveling well into his 80s.
George loved cooking and baking, garage sales, carpentry and tools, clocks, and trips to the casino for the slots and buffet.
He loved his family, which included his son, George Jr. (predeceased); his step-children, Terrie (John), Jeannie (Sean), and Eric Johnston; his granddaughters, Angie Allen (Mike) and Cathy White (Kenny); and grandson, Will Sullivan. He is survived by sisters, Ruth and Millie; 6 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. George had many life-long friends, of special note, Mina Kyle and Alice Keller, who were with him when he died.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sun., March 20th, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Heathman Lodge, 7801 NE Greenwood Dr., Vancouver, WA.
Special thanks go to Community Hospice Care Center and for his home health care Nurse Lisa for their tender care of George.
