Robert M. Whedon April 13, 1919-Feb. 15, 2012 Former Gresham resident Robert M. Whedon died Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Clackamas. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Glenfair Evangelical Church, 50 N.E. 143rd Ave., Portland. Bob was born April 13, 1919, in Montesano, Wash., to Dolph and Cora Whedon. He moved with his parents and four siblings to Oregon as a child. Bob was drafted by the Army in 1942 to serve in World War II. He was a squad leader for an anti-tank unit, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, as well as other campaigns in Europe in the 70th Division Trailblazers. In March 1944, Bob married Reva Howey. After his time in the Army, Bob worked as a driver and salesman for 12 years at the Ann Palmer Bakery. He then became a manager of luxury hotels in Oregon, Santa Barbara, Calif., and along the Oregon Coast. He also worked as a Dairy Queen franchise manager and as a warehouseman for Zellerbach Paper. He resided in Gresham for 27 years. Bob played baseball and golf and watched the Portland Trail Blazers and football games. He was a member of Glenfair Church for more than 40 years, and served as a lay leader for 20 years. |
