 Robert Stephen Sauers, Vancouver WA, passed away September 24, 2015. He was born April 13, 1927 in Jeannette Pennsylvania. Robert (Bob) married Agnes Sakrison on December 10 1955. They celebrated 51 years of marriage prior to Agnes death in 2007. Robert was, also, proceeded in death by his parents, Stephen and Edna Sauers. He is survived by brothers, Richard of Albany NY and Ronald of Highland Park NJ; sister-in-law Gladys Sakrison of Brush Prairie, WA and many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren. Robert retired in 1970 from the US Navy after serving in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He was a decorated hero with many medals. He served on many cruisers and ships throughout his career in the Navy. Robert and his wife, Agnes, moved to Ocean Park WA after military retirement where they enjoyed the beauty of the Washington coast and built a home for family to visit and enjoy. They were active at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Seaview WA. They devoted many hours to the church, chore services, and St. Vincent de Paul. Robert enjoyed fishing, clamming, walks on the beach, family visits and studying the weather. He also took great pride in crossword puzzles, New York Times was his favorite. Robert loved going to breakfast and dinner with drives around the Clark County area. He had a sharp sense of humor. He shared many stories of his life as a young man and in the Navy. Robert was an appreciated handy man by those who knew him, always tinkering and fixing things. He was an avid bird watcher and knew the names of most birds in the area. Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Vancouver WA, Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 10AM. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Vancouver WA immediately following Mass. Donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, c/o St. Mary's Catholic Church, Seaview WA.
