Mr. Montague served in the Army from 1942 -1945, he was a Clerk Typist, Tech 5 in the 754th Engr Co. He served in the European Theater from 1943 - 1945 earning the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and a WII Victory Medal. After his honorable discharge he worked for General Telephone Co. in Southern California.

William R. "Bill" Montague

February 14, 1921 - January 27, 2013

SALEM - William "Bill" Montague passed away on January 27th at the age of 91. He was born February 14, 1921 in Walkers Mills, Pennsylvania to Charles and Laura (McBride) Montague.

Bill was raised in Pennsylvania before serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. Following his service, he moved to Santa Monica, California, and worked as a supervisor for GTE for 30 years. When he wasn't working, he spent time with his two children, Paul and Pam. He and his son, Paul, shared a love of photography and music.

After his retirement from the phone company, he moved to Iowa where he met and married Nona Kipp. They enjoyed traveling together. During this time, he took great pride in the work he performed with the Cedar Rapids Theater Organ Society restoring pipe organs in local theaters.

In 1996, he and Nona moved to Salem, Oregon, and made their home first at Salem Greene, then at Lancaster Village. They became members of Salem First Church of the Nazarene and made many friends.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, traveling and music.
