David was born on December 29, 1921 and passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. David was inducted into the Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater. - Bugle Master Petty Officer 3rd Class

DAVID LESHER, BELOVED FATHER

David Lesher was born on December 29, 1921 in Portland, Oregon to Newt and Marie Lesher. He was the youngest of eight children. In 1933 his family moved to the Los Angeles Long Beach area to find work, returning to Portland in 1934.

David’s father was a brick mason and taught his sons the trade. Over the years, they worked in both Oregon and California. David met Ruth Teeny in 1940. They were married August 12, 1941, four months before the U.S. entered WWII.

David was inducted into the Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater. He was assigned to the battleship USS South Dakota as Buglemaster Third Class.

Upon his military discharge in 1945, David joined his father and brothers, working under N.B. Lesher and Sons as a brick mason in the Los Angeles area. David and Ruth moved to Portland, Oregon in 1948. David started his own business, as David R. Lesher, Mason Contractor, Incorporated. He worked on hundreds of custom homes throughout the Portland area. It was a trade he loved his entire life. Even though he semi-retired in 1980, he continued to work for his son, Greg, until he was 85 years old.

Until he passed away on December 11, 2019, David resided in the Portland area. He is survived by his 3 children, Loretta Lambert, Rita Owen, and Greg Lesher; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and a new great grandbaby due in May 2020; 3 great-great grandchildren. His family will always remember his sensitivity and tenderness to God’s spirit and call on his life.
