Captain Knotts was a well decorated veteran of World War II and has served on both battleships and submarines. He served as a sailor on the Battleship New York before the Naval Academy and going to WWII. Prior to receiving his own submarine command he was nearly killed in action 3 times during submarine operations. Captain Knotts was awarded the Legion of Merit and played a key role in the Polaris Program. He later served our great nation On Committee to the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.
