MARIE LOMA (KUMPOST) JOHNSON February 26, 1920 ~ July 8, 2012 " Marie was a gardener supremeā¦ working in her garden to the very end. Her yard is filled with many beautiful flowers." Marie, a longtime residence of Clark County and WW II veteran, passed away at the age of 92 on July 8th, 2012. She left this world the way she wanted; after a beautiful day working in the garden she simply went to sleep. Marie was born in Lavina, MT on Feb. 26, 1920 to James and Emma Kumpost. She spent her childhood in and around the Dorchester, NE area. After graduating from high school in 1937, Marie helped her father and brother, James Jr., work the family farm. In 1944, Marie enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was stationed at Camp Beale, CA where she met her husband Joseph. They later divorced in the 1950's. She worked for the Vancouver Veterans Hospital in the housekeeping department until she retired in 1980. Marie was much loved by her family and will be missed greatly by her sons, Terry (Nancy) and Gerry; daughter, Sherry Wheatley (Lewis); six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, WA, Tues., July 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Placement will be at Willamette National Cemetery. |
