Edward Park Chaddic

Edward Park Chaddic, 86, a resident of The Dalles, died at the local veterans’ home on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009.
He was born Oct. 19, 1922 in Dewitt, Ark., the younger of two children to Elzie Worth and Esther Bowman (Johnston) Chaddic.
He was raised in Arkansas, then moved with his family to St. Maries, Idaho. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II at Midway.
He moved to The Dalles in the early 1950s to work on construction of both The Dalles and John Day dams. Over the course of his life, he acquired a number of skills. He worked as a lineman, sawyer, mason, mechanic, powderman and deputy sheriff. He ran his own business, Chaddic Fencing, for more than 30 years.
He married Rose Ellen Bartholdi (nee Cunnion) in The Dalles on May 28, 1960.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed visiting with others, spending time with his grandchildren, working in his shop, traveling and being involved with community activities. For decades he volunteered thousands of hours at the church, schools and ball fields.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rose Chaddic, The Dalles; his children, Michael Chaddic and his fiancé Sharon Thomas, The Dalles; John Chaddic and his wife Felicia, Herdon, Va.; and Rosemary Dicus and her husband Larry, The Dalles; his grandchildren, Katye, Brysen, Brooke and Haley Uhalde; and Jennifer, Jaclyn and Andrew Chaddic.
Recitation of the Rosary was Oct. 5, at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home. Funeral Services were Oct. 6, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church followed by bural at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.

Rose Ellen Chaddic

Rose Ellen Chaddic, 84, a longtime resident of The Dalles, died at her daughter’s home on Oct. 7, 2009.
She was born Sept. 22, 1925 in Portland, to Edward and Rose Etta (McNamee) Cunnion. She grew up on a ranch near Ashwood, until she went to boarding school. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy.
She married Edward Park Chaddic on May 28, 1960. Their romance resulted in a marriage of nearly 50 years, three children (plus those who hung out at the house) and an untold number of housecats and dogs. They traveled around the U.S. and as far away as Egypt. For the last few years, she cared for Ed, who suffered from Alzheimer’s. In his last coherently spoken words to her, Ed asked Rose, “Do you still love me?” She replied, “Of course I do.”
Once it was apparent Ed had reached his last days, Rose allowed herself to relax and she seemed to let the years catch up with her almost overnight. She passed away one day after Ed’s funeral.
Many may remember her as a cook at school, but over the years she volunteered thousands of hours at church, school and sporting events or other organizations.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, St. Barbara’s Circle and Eagles and enjoyed rummage sales, bake sales, spaghetti feeds, Navy Mothers, baseball concession stands, sports events, talking on the phone with family and friends and family pets.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Chaddic and his fiancé Sharon Thomas, and John Chaddic and his wife Felicia; her daughter, Rosemary Dicus and her husband Larry; her grandchildren, Jennifer and Jaclyn Chaddic, Andrew Parker Chaddic, Katye, Brysen, Brooke and Haley Uhalde and her nieces and nephews in Ireland.
Viewing will be held on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 from 2 p.m. through the Recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.
