(SPRINGFIELD, Ore.) - Over 100 motorcycle riders showed up this week to pay their respects to a couple that died as a result of a car versus motorcycle crash on the Oregon coast May 17th. (see: Woman Dies in Motorcycle Crash North of Florence).

The man riding the bike, Robert Ellis Shimp, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was 63-years old. Robert survived for several days but ultimately died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. His wife, Nancy Ann Shimp who was 75, died at the scene.

The man and wife that passed away several days apart following a motorcycle crash on the Oregon coast, were both laid to rest Sunday, and they were significantly honored by the motorcycle organizations that accompanied the service.

Q Madp of IraqWarHeroes.org was on hand to photograph the event and shared the images with Salem-News.com for a number of purposes.

The most important reason is to honor this couple and show the bond that exists between veterans and motorcycle riders. The other thing we both hope to do is remind drivers in Oregon and everywhere else that summer is nearly upon us and with that comes an increased number of motorcycles on the road. Drivers need to always remember that bikes are harder to see than cars.

Bob Shimp was active with motorcycle groups and lived to ride. The Patriot Guard Riders, Christian Motorcycle Association and others came to bid farewell and also many stood on the flag line.

Q even brought extra flags for people who attended, in an effort to maximize their show of support for this veteran and his wife.

The event was held at the Twin Rivers Baptist Church in Springfield Oregon Sunday at 2:00 PM.

He noted that, "The church was packed and some people were even seated in the main hall. And many where on the flag line."

Robert Ellis Shimp died on May 27th 2008. He was born October 14th 1944 in Portland Oregon.

Nancy Ann Shimp died on May 17th 2008. She was born April 25th 1933 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Those who knew and loved them say they will be sorely missed. Here is a quick video presentation with images of the couple, the service and the show of support that was present.
