SEATTLE - Dale Ernest Price, 63, died April 16th, 2011, with his family by his side in Seattle, Washington at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Dale was finally welcomed home to his heavenly father after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dale was born May 10, 1947 in Pasadena, California to Nelson and Barbara Price. Dale was the second-oldest child of his family (older brother Jim, younger brother Bill, and younger sister Ellen). During his years growing up in Glendora he was very active in the Boy Scouts and he developed a great love for hiking and exploring God's creation with his family. At the age of 16, Dale and his best friend Chuck McKeown spent the summer as scout counselors on Catalina Island teaching camping, outdoor cooking, and pioneering skills to campers. Dale continued on with the Boy Scout Troop 486 all the way through high school, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. (Unknown to Dale at the time, the skills he gained as a Boy Scout and Scout counselor would later be used by God for his ministry at Canyonview Camp!)

He graduated from Glendora High School in 1965. After High School, Dale and his childhood friend, Chuck, both decided to travel north together and attend Oregon State University. Dale received an Army ROTC scholarship at the university and became a respected leader. During his junior year he met his beautiful future wife, Ruby.

Soon after graduating from Oregon State University and becoming a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, Dale and Ruby were married on February 21, 1970. Days after they were married they traveled to Germany where Dale was stationed with the Army for the next five years. After serving in Germany, Dale decided to retire from the Army active duty, but continued his career in the Army Reserves up until 1999, which he pursued all the way to the rank of Colonel.

Dale's desire and passion was now to teach the word of God, and Ruby's father, Dr. Ernest Campbell, was just starting the ground work for a new camp called Canyonview Camp located just outside of Silverton, Oregon. Dale and Ernie worked together to build and develop the wonderful ministry that has been God's tool to lead countless people to Christ. Dale, or "Buzzard" as he is known to most kids, focused his life on spreading the Gospel while showing a selfless love for every life that he touched. Dale also used his love for the outdoors to create a wonderful ministry that included back packing trips, bicycle trips, outdoor camps, and even sailing trips to spread God's word and develop young Christian leaders.

In addition to being the director of Canyonview Camp, Dale also was an active leader and part of the pastoral team at First Baptist Church in Silverton. He also volunteered much of his time towards the Silverton Kiwanis Club.

Even though Dale was involved with many ministries he still made his family a prime focus in his life. He was a devoted husband to Ruby and together they created a loving and godly home to raise their two sons, Joshua and Matthew. He enjoyed snowboarding, water-skiing, and hiking with his two sons and they shared his love for God's creation. In his later years he became the proud Grandpa of Tyler, Cody, Noah, and Logan. He deeply loved his family and was a beautiful example of what it means to be a "Follower of Christ". After receiving the news of his cancer, Dale's ministry became stronger than ever as he preached to churches as far as Russia about living life in "High Definition" for Christ.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of over 41 years (Ruby); two sons and their spouses (Josh and Jennifer Price / Matt and Amy Price); four grandchildren (Tyler, Cody, Noah, and Logan); two brothers (Jim Price and Bill Price); and sister (Ellen King).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Barbara Price.

Memorial Service:

A Memorial Service will be held at Canyonview Camp on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.

Transportation / Parking

Due to the limited parking available at Canyonview, it is highly recommended that families and friends carpool to the Memorial Service.

Shuttle Bus - A shuttle bus will be also be available for transportation from the First Baptist Church in Silverton out to Canyonview Camp. It will be a significant help if most church members, and anyone else that is able, use this shuttle service in order to reduce the number of vehicles parking at Canyonview.

The shuttle bus will have two departing times from the church - 12:45 pm and 1:15 pm. There will be multiple return trips back to the church after the memorial service for people leaving at different times. (First Baptist Church - 229 Westfield Street, Silverton, OR 97381)

Viewing:

Viewing for Dale will be held at Unger Funeral home in Silverton Oregon on Thursday, April 21, 2011 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Memorial Fund:

In lieu of flowers, a "Dale Price Memorial Fund" has been set up at Canyonview Camp to provide scholarships for campers and to carry on Dale's vision to train young Christian leaders. Contributions to this memorial fund can be made to Canyonview Camp - P.O. Box 128, Silverton, OR 97381; please indicate "Dale Price Memorial Fund" in the memo line.
