He attended James John Grade School and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Mike attended Portland State University to study Architecture but changed his studies to Physical Education because of his love for kids and sports. Mike worked for the City of Portland Department of Recreation prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. After finishing his army commitment, he continued work as a Recreation Instructor for the City of Portland for 35 years. During this time Mike continued to live in St. Johns. After retirement, he and his wife, Jan, volunteered for 7 years with Multnomah County Search and Rescue. Mike and Jan moved to Sandy, Ore., where he pursued his love for horses and they built a Gentleman's Ranch. Mike was active in his church and demonstrated his unselfish love for people with his care of many friends. He wanted to be remembered for his faithfulness to his family, friends and God. He was devoted to his wife and children.
