Daniel Dwight Burke Jr.
A service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, in Estacada Christian Church for Daniel Dwight Burke Jr., who died Nov. 27 at age 66.
Daniel Dwight Burke Jr. was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Kenmare, N.D. He served in the Army and was a firefighter in The Dalles and fire chief for Black Butte Ranch in Bend before moving in 1983 to Estacada, where he was fire chief for 17 years. In 1960, he married Dorothy Holmen.
Survivors include his wife; sons, Jim and Mike; sisters, Carol Honcharenko, Karen Criss and Dorothy Dunkelberger; and three grandchildren.

Longtime Estacada resident Daniel Burke died at his home on Nov. 27, 2008. He was 66.
A celebration of his life was held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at Estacada Christian Church.
Daniel Dwight Burke, Jr. was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Kenmare, N. D., to Daniel Sr. and Evelyn (Jensen) Burke. He was raised there and entered into the Army as a medic in 1961. On Oct. 21, 1960, he married Dorothy Holmen in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. They started their family there. After the service, they moved to The Dalles, Ore., where he started his firefighting career. Dan then became fire chief at Black Butte Ranch in 1979 and then moved to Estacada in 1983; he was fire chief until his retirement in 2000. Dan returned as interim chief until Alan Hull took over the position in 2003.
He had a great love for riding his Harley and being a longtime member of the Old Coots riding club. Dan enjoyed hunting, camping, being in the outdoors and spending time with his family.
Dan is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons Jim Burke and his wife Charlene, Mike Burke and his wife Judy, both of Albany; sisters Carol Honcharenko of Bismarck, N.D., Karen Criss of Sacramento, Calif., and Doris Dunkelberger of Sacramento, Calif.; grandchildren Ryan, Megan, Derek; and many nieces and nephews.
