James served from JUL 1947 to MAY 1950 and was honorably discharged at the rank of PFC (E-3.) He spent nearly two years in Korea and Japan as a Telephone/Communications Repairman. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal-Japan. |

| James Welby Trask (1929 - 2016) Obituary Trask, James Welby 86 Nov. 26, 1929 Nov. 21, 2016 James Welby Trask passed away at his home shortly before his 87th birthday. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family. Jim and Marlene had four children, Teresa Walton, Jeffrey Trask, Cindy Ross, and Julie DuPont; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Born and raised in Portland, the son of James and Susan (Cutler) Trask, Jim was a lifelong resident of Portland and Gresham. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Vincent. Two months after graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1947, Jim joined the US Army where he proudly served in Korea and Japan. After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1950, Jim met his future bride, Marlene Hohenleitner. They were married in 1951 and shared more than 65 years of beautiful experiences together. Always an athlete, Jim ran track, played football, basketball, and fast-pitch softball. He hit 168 home runs, and, in 1964, was honored as the Outstanding Player of the Year by the Portland Softball Association. He was also a golfer with a hole-in-one in 1993 and an avid bowler who bowled a 300 game in 2000. He and Marlene walked in 246 Volkswalks throughout the NW. Jim worked for 41 years at Boeing of Portland. As a loving father, he volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America. He volunteered at the Red Cross from 1992-2016. He was on the Board of Directors in his final year of service. He donated 33 gallons of blood throughout his lifetime. His smile and sense of humor brightened every room he entered and he was a friend to everyone he met. He was truly a gentle man. A Committal service with Military Honors will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 at Willamette National Cemetery. A Celebration of his Life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church, SE 39th & Steele Street, Portland. Friends and family are invited to attend both services.
