| John R. Settlemier Sr. John Rodney Settlemier Sr., 83, of Castle Rock passed to his Lord and Savior on Jan. 22, 2015, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born at home in Castle Rock to Rodney and Susana (Staadt) Settlemier on Oct. 10, 1931. He was one of nine children. His siblings were Alice, Francis, Walt, Ruth, Rose, Roy, James and Sam. Walt, Alice and Frances preceded him in death. John leaves behind three children, Connie Brown of Yuma, Ariz., and Skip Settlemier and Karen Kelley, both of Castle Rock; five grandchildren, Bob and Andy Parker, Kristopher Meyers, and Joel and Jesse Settlemier; six great-grandchildren, Niklas, Kasen, Kaitlyn, Chloe, Aivry and Jordan; and many nieces and nephews. John proudly served his country as an Army medic during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952, earning several medals and citations. He drove log truck for 15 years. Trucking was always in his blood. He retired from Weyerhaeuser Co. in 1996. He was a member of the Cowlitz Way Baptist Church for many years. A graveside service is planned for noon Saturday at Whittle-Hubbard Cemetery in Castle Rock. A celebration of John’s life will follow from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Castle Rock Woman’s Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cowlitz Way Baptist Church or the Community Home Health & Hospice. Arrangements are by Hubbard Funeral Home. |
