| Herman Guelsdorf passed away on December 19, 2019 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 90. He was born on November 26, 1929 in Oak Park, Illinois to William and Anna (Kaack) Guelsdorf. Herman graduated from Proviso High School in Maywood, Illinois. Upon his graduation he served his country in the United States Army for 20 years in Communications. He retired from the Army as a Sargeant first class. Herman married Alma Boldt in 1956. Alma passed away in 2009. Herman lived in Seattle from 1968-1972. He has lived in Gresham, Oregon since 1972. Herman worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad Company and for Western Union. Some of Herman’s interest included being a baseball enthusiast, where he was a big Chicago Cubs Baseball Fan, a voracious reader, a World War II Historian, who was very interested in the battles between Germany and the Allies. He was the only one of his family who was born in the United States. All his other siblings were born in Germany. Herman is survived by his son Kurt Guelsdorf, and his 3 grandchildren: Kaari, Kylie and Kaydyn Guelsdorf. A Reception gathering will be on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home located at 520 W. Powell Blvd. in Gresham, Oregon. Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. |
